1. Use Neutral Colors

There many tricks that you can use to make a small room look bigger. The easiest way is to use light colors, such as cream colors and icy blues. Using this, colors can convert a small room into a seemingly bigger room. It is all about optical illusion. Light colors make a room look bigger, brighter, open and airy. On the other hand dark colors make rooms look smaller, and absorb light. Paint your wall trim and molding in a lighter color than your walls. This will make the walls appear further back, making the room appear bigger.

2. Use Different Types of Lighting

One of the things that make a home look so warm and welcoming is great lighting. Many homes are improperly lighted. To fix the problem, increase the wattage in your lamps and fixtures. Aim for a total of 100 watts for each 50 square feet or less. Don’t depend on just one or two fixtures per room, either. Make sure you use three types of lighting: ambient, task, and accent.
